Effects of Alcohol

affects

What are the effects of alcohol and how it controls your life. This page is geared toward those who have trouble with the results of their drinking. For a lot of us happiness is sometimes elusive. Better job, car, spouse, friends, children. What we fail to understand that a lot of these experiences are our own fault do to our alcohol or drug abuse. It may not be something you want to hear or face, nobody wants to emit that there life's failures may be their fault.  Life is simply cause and effect. Effects of alcohol on your mind and consciousness will affect how you handle life's situations.

To understand this we must know what alcohol does to our brain. On the short term it can cause difficulty walking, blurred vision, slurred speech, slowed reaction times and impaired memory. Anything in moderation is manageable.

People who abuse alcohol experience effects in the brain which are caused by altering the brain's chemistry levels of neurotransmitters. Neurotransmitters are chemical messengers that transmit the signals throughout the body that control thought process, behavior and emotion.

Why does effects of alcohol matter?

When we start to abuse it, we start to experience changes in who we are. This is what I want to talk about.

We may believe that we are kind, loving and gentle, although the effects of alcohol on our thought process is something we do not see until it is too late. The effects on our job and home life can be devastating. We hurt the ones closest to us, while trying to blame outside things for our problems. Our whole  Mind  Body Spirit  connection is lost. We become a shell of who we really are. Our loved ones are the most affected. We abuse them physically and mentally.

Alcohol Anonymous say this in their text book:

MOST of us have been unwilling to admit we were real alcoholics. No person likes to think he is bodily and mentally different from his fellows. Therefore, it is not surprising that our drinking careers have been characterized by countless vain attempts to prove we could drink like other people. The idea that somehow, someday he will control and enjoy his liquor drinking is the great obsession of every abnormal drinker. The persistence of this illusion is astonishing. Many pursue it into the gates of insanity or death. We learned that we had to fully concede to our innermost selves that we were alcoholics. This is the first step in recovery. The delusion that we are like other people, or presently may be, has to be smashed. We alcoholics are men and women who have lost the ability to control our drinking. We know that no real alcoholic ever recovered control. All of us felt at times that we were regaining control, but such intervals—usually brief— were inevitably followed by still less control, which led in time to pitiful and incomprehensible demoralization. We are convinced to a man that alcoholics of our type are in the grip of a progressive illness. Over any considerable period we get worse, never better.

The long term effects on our children and immediate family can and will cause long term damage. We all want our children to grow up whole and well adjusted but alcohol abuse will affect their development. The loving person we want to be, ends up being the person they hate. Unless we change our thoughts and start to love ourselves we can not love anyone.  Besides all of these facts, do we really want to damage our relationships with friends, co-workers, and all the people who trust us and look up to us? Do we really want to destroy our families trust in us to the point where we can not mend it?

Getting help or admitting we are helpless to quit our addictions is not weak. It is just the opposite. It takes a strong person to admit he or she needs help and then follow thru with it. Getting sober from alcohol or drugs will probable be the hardest thing you will ever do. Like we learn as children, anything worth while is worth doing right. I will say this, If you get help, take it serious your life will get better.

Remember you probably did a lot of things you regret. This may have long-term consequences that you will have to deal with. Cause and effect. You can not change the past, but you are in total control of your future.  Live for today, make each moment count and your future will turn out better than you expected. Treat all you come in contact with respect. Do your best to limit mistakes, and if you make them immediately make amends and change the behavior.

Take the time to study the rest of this website and it will help you to navigate your life better.
